Nevada Senator Harry Reid founded Searchlight Leadership Fund in 1997, naming it after his Nevada hometown where he first learned the hard work and sacrifice it takes to achieve a working family’s dreams. He attended a two-room elementary school, and walked 40 miles to attend the nearest high school. He went on to graduate from Utah State University and then paid his way through law school at George Washington University by working nights as a Capitol policeman. In 2005, Senator Reid was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Democratic leader of the Senate and he brought that same determination to help families throughout the country.
Searchlight Leadership Fund’s mission is to elect Democrats who know that struggle in their own lives, and who will work with Sen. Reid to support middle class families. Since its founding, Searchlight Leadership Fund has helped support 139 candidates for the U.S. Senate and 82 candidates for the House of Representatives through $1.5 million in contributions.
We need your support now more than ever to make sure a child from Searchlight can still become leader of the U.S. Senate.
